For me, 2015 was a milestone year, I was turning 70, and just as I was deciding how to celebrate, a brochure arrived from a senior’s travel company about a special tour of the UK and Ireland. It was perfect, as they were visiting the birthplace of my grandparents where I’d always longed to go.
The tour started off well in London. However, the next morning I began to feel unwell during the tour and was admitted to Warwick Hospital. On regaining consciousness two days later I realized with horror that the tour had gone ahead, leaving me alone and barely able to function, surrounded by strangers thousands of kilometers from in a country where no one can be contacted for help.
As I stared across the room, another patient and her male visitor smiled. Introducing themselves as Sue and Roger, they said they had been told of my troubles, and offered to contact my relatives in Australia. Ten days later, I was discharged but was still too weak to travel. Sue and Roger suggested I stay at the Falcon Hotel. Each morning they came with magazines, books and special treats. I then spoke of a friend in New Zealand who also over the years had been to my home to listen, advise and assist whenever needed and I explained he was a famous retired surgeon in Auckland and I told them more information about him. Sue suddenly shouted ‘Don Martin!” Martin turned out to be Roger’s stepbrother. We sat staring at each other surprisingly before shouting how this miracle had brought us together in a hospital when I was so much in need. How lucky I was!
Ever since the bond between us has grown. We keep in contact and hope very much to meet again.

  A. I had a successful operation there      B. I failed to afford the medical fees
C I was urged to pay for the treatment.    D. I was permitted to leave hospital
27. Which would probably be the best title for this passage?

Yelp, the San Francisco Internet company that makes reviews of restaurants and other businesses across a large part of America, is getting into the food delivery business.
Today, the company has announced that it has agreed to acquire Eat24, a food company that delivers food to homes on behalf of partner restaurants. Yelp is paying $134 million for the company—$75 million in cash and the rest in stock. Eat24 works with 20,000 restaurants in more than 1,500 cities all over the U.S.
On Yelp's reviews site, you can find new restaurants to suit your tastes, and now that the company is acquiring Eat24, the idea is that it will also let you take the next step: order food to your door.
“If you're looking at a restaurant, you want to be able to book that restaurant,” Yelp co-founder and CEO Jeremy said in a Tuesday interview. “If we can integrate(融入) that into the Yelp experience, it makes the site much better.”
The move is just one way that some of Internet's most recognizable names are branching into online food delivery to improve their existing business. Last August, payments company Square bought Caviar, a high-end quick food delivery service. And that same month, Uber tested a fast food delivery service called UberFRESH, which aimed to deliver meals from local restaurants to customers in less than 10 minutes.
In each case, food delivery can provide an added source of income, and it can also help these companies push the use of their existing services. The market for food delivery is hardly small, and mobile technologies can speed up the process, potentially expanding the business even further.
28. How does Yelp pay for the company Eat24?
A. Totally by cheque.    B. Totally in cash.      C. Only in credit       D. Partly in stock.
29. What can customers NOT do on the new Yelp's website?
A. Finding the restaurants they like.       B. Booking a restaurant they like.
C..  Enjoying much cheaper food.    D. Ordering food to their door
30. What does the underlined word “acquire” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Purchase.. B. Claim. C. Request. D. Bargain
31. From the passage, we can infer that many companies ________.
A. begin to set up their own food branches
B. begin to attach importance to food delivery making
C. make little money from their existing business
D. give up the present business and turn to food making
D
Somewhere between 40,000 and 110,000 tons of plastic waste produced by Americans ends up in the ocean, according to a study published in the journal Science.
It’s difficult to point out where all that waste comes from, and researchers think that much or most of it probably comes from the nation’s seriously-populated coasts. But there’s also evidence that the nation’s inland waterways serve as a passage for plastic to travel thousands of miles into the oceans.
While researchers have documented plastic and human trash floating in the world’s oceans, there has been relatively little attention paid to plastics in rivers, streams and lakes. “To my knowledge, no one has studied particular routes, with the exception of places like L.A, and Baltimore Harbor where there are measures in place to prevent trash in rivers from entering the ocean.” said Kara Lavender Law, an oceanographer.
The few studies that exist, however, suggest that it may be a huge problem. A 2011 study of two southern California urban rivers—including Santa Ana River—found that every square meter of water contained from 125 to 819 pieces larger than 4.75 millimeters. Another survey of the Meuse River, which flows 575 miles through France. Belgium and the Netherlands to the North Sae, found that it contained 70,000 pieces of plastics per square meter of water, about 500 of which were roughly an inch or bigger in size.
If there’s anything positive in this, it’s you that can do something, at least on a personal level, to reduce the amount of plastic that goes into the oceans. “Put trash where it goes.” said Jenna Jambeck, an associate professor of environmrental engineering at the University of Georgia. “Use reusable items—bags, cups and bottles—to reduce waste.”
Finally, Jambeck urges people to pick up litter along waterways, and record it with a phone app called the Marine Debris Tracker. The data you provide can help scientists to get a better handle on the trash problem.
32. According to the text, the least polluted place might be _____?
A. Meuse River     B. Baltimore Harbor    C. The North Sea    D. Santa Ana River
33. How does the author prove plastic waste in rivers is a huge problem?
A. By referring to experts’ views           B. By following time order.
C. By making comparisons.               D.. By listing statistics.
34. What does Jenna Jambeck advise us to do?
A. Make use of plastic items.                B. Stay positive about the oceans’ future.
C.. Start from small things to deal with waste.  D. Reduce the size of waste we throw away
35. What can we do by using the Marine Debris Tracker?
A. Provide some data for scientists to use.
B. Recycle some wasted items.
C. Call on more people to pick up litter.
D. Make picking up litter a daily routine.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
How long can human beings live?   36   However, 110 years is probably the longest that anyone could hope to live — if he or she is extremely healthy and lucky. Some scientists even say we can live as long as 130 years!   37   They wear out, and as a result, we get old and eventually die.
Even though we can’t live forever, we are living a longer life than ever before. In 1900, the average American life-span was only 47 years, but today it is 75 years!
38   Sixty-five may be out-of-date as the dividing line between middle age and old age. After all, many older people don’t begin to experience physical and mental decline until after age 75.
People are living longer because more people survive childhood.   39   Now that the chances of dying young are much lower, the chances of living long are much higher due to better diets and health care.
40   The changes in our population will have lasting effects on our social development and our way of life. Some people fear such changes will be for the worse, while some see chances, not disaster. Many men and women in their “golden years” are healthy, still active, and young in mind if not in age. With long lives ahead of older citizens, they need to stay active and devoted.
A. On the whole, our population is getting older.
B. Most scientists studying old age think the human body is designed to live no longer than 120 years.
C. A recent research shows that cancer cells can multiply themselves like crazy at all times
D. Before modern medicine changed the laws of nature, many children died of common childhood diseases.
E. When does old age begin then?
F. As the society grows old, we need the contributions of our older citizens.
G. Yet, the cells in the human body simply cannot continue to reproduce endlessly.

写作范文:
.Dear Andrew,
How nice to hear from you again! I think it is natural for you not to get used to the life there. Here I have some suggestions for you .
First of all, you should respect the local customs there and try to involve yourself in the natives’ lives. Just as the saying goes, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” Secondly, don’t be afraid to communicate with American students and make friends with them. Friendship will bring you happiness. What’s more, it is better for you to join in more outdoor activities with your friends, which may help you relax and have fun. Finally, mind your own manners and remain modest and honest when getting along with your friends.
I do hope my proposals will help. May you adapt to your new life and enjoy your stay there.
Best wishes!
                                                                    Yours,
