Our nonprofit organization had just received a large donation of clothing. As three of us walked home for dinner, we saw a woman begging by the bridge. She was old and had no legs. She shivered in her thin sari(纱巾), which offered little protection from the cold wind. Her hunger forced her to beg. My friends and I looked at each other:here was a perfect opportunity, but first it was necessary to do a little bit of research.
We went up to the woman to hear her story. She spoke very little due to her poor health and fear, but we learned enough. She lived alone in her small home. She had no one to look after her and ate whatever people gave her. The desire to help her grew stronger. After speaking to her, we headed back to get something to keep her warm. Finding the perfect sweater, we set out again to see the woman. This time, the fear was replaced by distrust as we presented her with the sweater.
“Are you robbers?” she asked. “You came here before and are back so suddenly with clothes.” I was surprised by her principles.Even in her state, she did not want to wear anything that was stolen and gained through ill means.
“No, we are out doing service work.” Her shoulders relaxed a bit. I then helped her put the sweater on and said, “Please don't sell the sweater.” “I swear, I won't,” she said.
A week later, I was out walking with my mother to get some food when I saw the woman again. This time the picture was a little different. She was still begging, but with the gray sweater wrapped around her body and a smile on her face when she saw us. I guarantee that the smile on my face was bigger.
24. What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A. The organization had too many clothes.
B. The writer offered help without hesitation.
C. The woman wanted to make a fortune by begging.
D. The writer was careful before offering help to the beggar.
25. What do the underlined words “her principles” in the third paragraph refer to?
A. She never trusted strangers.
B. She never accepted donations from the poor.
C. She wouldn't accept anything gained illegally.
D. She wouldn't take advantage of others' kindness.
26. What contributed to their smiles at last?
A. Kindness and trust. B. Caution and fear.
C. Doubt and distrust. D. Optimism and generosity.
27. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Trusting the Beggars B. A Beggar’s Morality
C. The Sweater to a Beggar D. Learning to Judge a Real Beggar
C
Do you often feel that you haven’t afford got enough time to carry out all the plans drawn up at the beginning of the year, and a new year is drawing near unexpectedly? If you have the same feeling, you are not alone. It feels like time speeds up every year.
Scientists claim that over thousands of years, great changes have taken place. However, time is mysterious and unique. No matter what happens in the world, time seems to turn a blind eye to the outside world. Whether it is in the past, at present, or in the future, time would not vary with the development of the world. It remains the same and operates at a relatively steady speed.
According to a recent study, smart phones, tablets and other digital products have trained our brains to process more information, causing us to think time is passing faster than it really is. Even just reading a simple advertisement on the digital device, the people who were experimented on thought time passed more quickly, compared with the other group that read a long monologue(独白)from a real book.
“It’s almost as though we’re trying to keep step with the technology, and do things more quickly and more efficiently,” Dr. Mcoughlin from James Cook University said.“It seems like there’s something about technology itself that speeds up our pacemakers which measure the passing of time.”
Researchers note that in order to stop time from rushing by, we should reduce the time spent online and prevent the pacemaker moving fast .The findings prove what most people have known: we need to stop and smell the roses.
28. Which of the following is TRUE according to the scientists?
A. People have known clearly about time. B. Time is something that never changes.
C. People can change the feature of time. D. Time usually keeps pace with our life.
29. What makes us feel that time is getting faster?
A. The healthy lifestyle. B. Reading a lot of books.
C. The high tech products. D. The development of the brain.
30. What's the attitude of Dr. McLoughlin to the study?
A. Opposed. B. Approving. C. Doubtful. D. Unconcerned.
31. By saying "we need to stop and smell the roses", the author means_________.
A. we must know how to plant roses
B. it's necessary to avoid using the Internet
C. people can keep working without a break
D. we should learn to slow down and enjoy our life.
D
Imagine that 7 out of 10 working Americans got fired tomorrow. What would they all do? It’s hard to believe it would happen. But that is what the industrial revolution did to the labor force of the early 19th century.
Two hundred years ago, 70 percent of American workers lived on the farm. Today automation(自动化) has eliminated all but one percent of their jobs, replacing them with machines. But these workers did not sit, doing nothing. Instead, automation created hundreds of millions of jobs in completely new fields. Those who once farmed were then working in factories that produced farm equipment, cars, and other industrial products.
It may be hard to believe, but before the end of this century, 70 percent of today’s jobs will likely be replaced by automation. Yes, dear reader, even you will have your job taken away by machines. In other words, robot replacement is just a matter of time, First, speedy robots being able to lift 150 pounds all day long will carry boxes, sort them, and load them onto trucks. Fruit and vegetable picking will continue to be robotized until no humans pick outside of specialty farms. Next, The work of cleaning in offices and schools will be taken over by late-night robots. The trucks will be driven by robots.
We need to let robots take over. They will do jobs we have been doing, and do them much better than we can. They will do jobs we can’t do at all. They will do jobs we never imagined even needed to be done, and they will help us discover new jobs for ourselves and new tasks that expand who we are. They will let us focus on becoming more human than we were.
32. What happened in the early 19th century?
A. Some working Americans in factories got fired.
B. Jobless workers had no choice but to sit there doing nothing at all.
C. Many American workers had to leave factories to work on the farm.
D. The industrial revolution caused many Americans to lose their jobs.
33. How does the author support the underlined statement in Paragraph 3?
A. By giving advice. B. By giving examples.
C. By following the order of time. D. By explaining cause and effect.
34 How does the author feel about robots taking over our jobs?
A. Afraid. B. Happy. C. Puzzled. D. Angry.
35. What does the author want to tell us in the text ?
A. Why robots should take over our jobs.
B. 70% of working Americans will be jobless.
C. The industrial revolution led to the automation.
D. Robots will do more things for us to live better.

书面表达
Dear Editors,
With the approach of Senior 3 studies, students who have almost finished Senior 2 are under increasingly great pressure, which has affected some students’ life. This prevents them sleeping well and causes problems with their health. In order to improve the condition, I’d like to offer some advice.
First and foremost, combine work with rest. Keep in mind that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Furthermore, it is important to keep a healthy and balanced diet. Staying away from junk food and eating healthy food like vegetables and fish will benefit you. In addition, go outdoors and take regular exercise, for physical exercise is an effective way to get rid of pressure. Last but not least, good health means being both physically and mentally healthy. Keeping an optimistic state of mind will contribute to a good physical state.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
